Regional Gold Key from the Scholastic Arts and Writing Awards
In 2010, I won a Northeast Region-At-Large Gold Key for a fictional short story I wrote. A Gold Key was the highest possible achievement at the regional level and qualified your work to be considered on the national level. In 2010, more than 165,000 works were submitted and only 1,111 manuscripts earned Gold Key recognition.
Contributor to the Valley News Newspaper
For a few weeks one summer, I shadowed a senior newspaper reporter at my regional newspaper, the Valley News. Since then, I've written a few articles for them over the years: about a volunteer trip, on a controversial grading system at a local high school, and most recently, an op-ed perspective piece from France. The Valley News is listed at the 4th largest newspaper in New Hampshire and has a circulation of over 17,000.
English and politics Major at NYU
I graduated in May 2015 with a degree in English and Politics. From a small town in Vermont, I wanted to go to college in New York City, because I wanted to be where the action was. I wanted to go to a place that was less homogeneous, had culture, energy, and an infinite number of things to do. As a student, some of my favorite classes were creative writing courses, a Tisch T.V. sitcom writing class, and two modern drama and play writing classes.
Living in london
While a student at NYU, I lived and studied abroad in London for 4 months. It was only my second time ever on a plane and my first time ever being abroad alone. It was a thrilling experience. I joined a girl's soccer (or football) team at UCL and traveled around England with them to play in games. I made a map, pictured above, of all the different bubbles of London I wanted to pop to explore the city. I kept a blog - called Popping Around London - to track my progress and to record my adventures along the way.
intern for congressman welch
In college, I also became very interested in politics. Being from Vermont, I interned for our congressman, Representative Peter Welch, and lived in Burlington, VT for a summer. As an intern, among other office responsibilities, I helped write official letters and respond to correspondence with constituents in the Congressman's voice.
digital marketing intern for precision strategies
During my senior year, I was a digital marketing intern for 9 months at this NYC start-up that was co-founded by the digital director for Obama's 2012 Campaign. Their clients range from the entertainment industry and for-profit companies, to political organizations and nonprofits. As an intern, I did copywriting for clients, crafted social media posts, and wrote content in the voice of celebrities and other influencers.
Living in paris
I spent the last 7 months living and teaching English in Paris to French elementary school kids. I kept a blog - Emma in Paris - while I was there and contributed some blog entries to the Valley News from abroad.
freelance writer for A nyc start-up
In 2016, I was hired to write for the blog of an exciting new NYC health start-up for women: Extend Fertility. In addition to researching and contributing articles on assignment, I also brainstormed and wrote about my own ideas to better inform and educate curious women.
Strategist at Stand Up America
Following the results of the 2016 election, I couldn’t be satisfied with sitting around and not being politically involved in some way. I joined Stand Up America—a digital organizing community committed to resisting Trump’s agenda. Now, I write copy (in all different forms) to motivate progressives to take action and stand up for our democracy.
